General Policy of WP 18 at European level
- to inventory the industrial concerns and needs in the area of tribocorrosion,
- to stimulate multidisciplinary research activities in order to develop solutions to the industrial problems of tribocorrosion,
- to structure and strengthen the European research area (ERA) in line with the CEC-6 FP,7FP, Cost-ESF,
- to disseminate new insights acquired on typical aspects of tribocorrosion in order to get a worldwide recognition of European research and technological developments on tribocorrosion.
General Policy of WP 18 at the level of CEC-countries
- to create industrial awareness of the risks linked to tribocorrosion,
- to organize meetings on tribocorrosion at European and local level, in different fields of technology,
- to attract funding for research and development activities on tribocorrosion from European and national entities.
Operational Organisation of WP 18
Six commissions were installed on the following topics:
- Science and technology watch
Chair: Volkmar Neubert (DN Institute - D)
- Inventory of Centres of excellence
Chair: Margaret Stack (Univ. Strathclyde - UK)
- Inventory of present and future industrial needs and scientific knowledge to be developed in tribo-corrosion, bio-tribology, and nano-materials
Chair: Dieter Landolt (EPFL - CH)
- Etablishment of specific R&D actions
Chair: Stéfano Mischler ((EPFL - CH)
- Standardisation and Sustainable Growth
Chairman: Alfons Fischer (Univ. Essen - D)
- Knowledge dissemination, Education and Training
Chair: Lidia Benea (Univ. of Galati -RO)
Activities of the Working Party
- Courses in Tribocorrosion
-
- 2007 - A short course on tribocorrosion (one day).
- 2009 - A training school on Bio-tribocorrosion (5 days)
- Participation in the development of standards
2007 / 2010 - Project TRIBOSTAND under the umbrella ENIWEP- EUREKA
(European Network for Industrial Wear Prevention- E! 3606):
- an action towards the elaboration of a test protocol on biotribocorrosion and its validation that extends the applicability of ASTM G 119-04 standard entitled "Determining Synergism between wear and Corrosion" to passivating materials used under tribocorrosion conditions.
- published by N. Diomidis, J.-P.Celis, P. Ponthiaux, F. Wenger, A methodology for the assessment of the tribocorrosion of passivating metallic materials, Lubrication Science, 21 (2), 2009, 53-67
- Contributions to publications
-
- Special issue of WEAR on Tribocorrosion, editors J.P. Celis and P. Ponthiaux, 261, (9), 2006
- R.-W. Bosch, D. Féron, J.-P. Celis - Electrochemistry in light water reactors: Reference electrodes, measurement, corrosion and tribocorrosion issues, eds. R.-W. Bosch, D. Féron, J.-P. Celis, European Federation of Corrosion, Publ. Woodhead Ltd, Cambridge (GB), 49, ISSN 1354-5116 (2007)
Planning of WP18 - period 2010-2012: Main objectives for the next three years
- Analyses of the outcome of two Round Robin actions in progress and dissemination of them (further reporting at Eurocorr 2010, 2011 and 2012)
- Organization of the Fourth Workshop on Tribocorrosion at Eurocorr 2011 inclusive the Second Course on Biotribocorrosion
- Looking for the possibility to publish a green Book EFC based on the Protocol and related Round Robin on Biotribocorrosion to be worked out in 2010 and 2011
- Further actions towards the support of scientific and technological R&D on Tribocorrosion (e.g. Marie Curie program for training and research in FP7-CEC, or COST-ESF program)
