Pr. Philippe Marcus is Director of Research at CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) and Director of the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Surfaces at Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris, France. Dr Marcus received his Ph. D. (1979) in Physical Sciences from University Pierre and Marie Curie, Paris, France.

His field of research is surface chemistry, surface electrochemistry and corrosion science, with emphasis on the understanding of the structure and properties of metal and alloy surfaces. His research interests include the growth mechanisms and structure of oxide layers on metals and alloys in gaseous and aqueous environments, adsorption of inorganic, organic and biomolecules, the mechanisms of corrosion of metals and alloys at the nanoscale, passivity, passivity breakdown and localized corrosion, high temperature oxidation, and the applications of advanced surface analytical methods such as X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy.

Philippe Marcus has published over 300 papers in scientific journals, books and conference proceedings in the areas of surface chemistry and electrochemistry, corrosion science, surface analysis and materials science, plus two books "Corrosion Mechanisms in Theory and Practice" and "Analytical Methods in Corrosion Science and Engineering". He has given over 80 invited lectures at International Conferences. He serves on the editorial board of five major journals in Electrochemistry and Corrosion: Electrochimica Acta, Corrosion Science, Materials and Corrosion, Corrosion Engineering, Science, and Technology, and Corrosion Reviews. Pr. Marcus has received a number of awards and honors, including the 2005 Uhlig Award from the Electrochemical Society, the 2008 Whitney Award from NACE International and the 2008 Cavallaro Medal from the European Federation of Corrosion. He is an elected Fellow of the Electrochemical Society.

In addition to the position of President of the European Federation of Corrosion, Pr Marcus also chairs the EFC Working Party on Surface Science and Mechanisms of Corrosion and Protection, and the International Steering Committee for the European Conferences on Applications of Surface and Interface Analysis. He is the former Vice-President of the European Federation of Corrosion, former co-chair of the Electrodeposition, Corrosion and Surface Treatments Division of the International Society of Electrochemistry and former Chair of the Electrochemical Materials Science Division of the International Society of Electrochemistry. He is also currently Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Committee of CEFRACOR (Centre Français de l'Anticorrosion).

Pr Marcus has organised or co-organised several international conferences and symposia. Recently he was the Chairman of ECASIA (the European Conference on Applications of Surface and Interface Analysis, Avignon (F), 2001), EUROCORR (the European Corrosion Conference, Nice (F), 2004) and Passivity-9 (the 9th International Conference on the Passivation of Metals and Semiconductors and the Properties of Thin Oxide Layers, Paris (F), 2005). In 2006 he was the Chair of the Gordon Research Conference on Aqueous Corrosion (New London, NH, USA). He is the Chair of EUROCORR 2009.

Lorenzo Fedrizzi is a full professor of Materials Science and Technology at the University of Udine, Italy where he teaches Composite Materials Science and Technology and Corrosion at the Engineering Faculty. From 1998 to 2003 he was Associate Professor of Material Science and Technology at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" where he taught Corrosion and Corrosion Protection and from 1989 to 1997 he was a Lecturer at the University of Trento's engineering faculty. From 1983 to 1988 he worked as a Researcher at the Institute for Scientific and Technological Research (IRST) in Trento where he studied Physical Vapour Deposition and Ion Implantation processes. He received his degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Padua and has been appointed Doctor Honoris Causa in "Applied Sciences" at the Faculté Polytechnique de Mons in 2008.

Amongst his other professional involvements, Lorenzo Fedrizzi is Head of the Department of Chemistry, Physics and Environment at the University of Udine and a member of the Editorial Board of Progress in Organic Coatings, of Materials and Corrosion as well as a member of the Editorial Board of Corrosion Engineering Science and Technology. His main scientific interests are corrosion protection by coatings (organic, metallic and ceramic), and the study of tribo-corrosion mechanisms and the corrosion behaviour of sintered metal parts and has published more than 300 papers on these topics in international journals and conference proceedings. He has also been a referee for many international journals such as "Corrosion Science", "Electrochimica Acta", "Progress in Organic Coatings", "Surface and Coatings Technology" and "The Journal of the Electrochemical Society".

Since 2001, Prof. Fedrizzi successfully chairs the EFC Working Party on Coatings. Furthermore,  he is a Member of the International Scientific Committee for EUROCORR.

Born in 1952, Michael Schütze studied materials science at the University of Erlangen-Nuernberg. He obtained his doctorate at RWTH Aachen in 1983 and it was there that he qualified as a university lecturer in 1991 and received the title of professor in 1998. In 1978 Michael Schütze commenced work as a scientist at Karl-Winnacker-Institut of DECHEMA where he was appointed head of high temperature materials research in 1991. In 1996 he was made a director of the institute.

His research priorities address the areas of high temperature oxidation and corrosion, protective layers, and intermetallic compounds. In the year 2000 he was awarded the Rahmel-Schwenk Medal, in 2004 the Otto von Guericke Prize of the AiF, and in 2010 the Cavallaro Medal. In 1999 he organized the prestigious Gordon Research Conference on Corrosion in his capacity of elected chairman. Michael Schütze is the author of over 200 scientific publications, the author/editor of 8 books and holds 19 patents.

At EUROCORR 2010, Michael Schütze was awarded the Cavallaro Medal of the University of Ferrara. The award is presented every two years on the occasion of EUROCORR in recognition of a scientist who has made a particularly distinguished contribution the field of corrosion research.
