EFC President and Vice-President
In September 2005 the EFC General Assembly elected Professor Michal Schuetze, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, as the new EFC President for a two-year term of office from 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2007.
At the last meeting of the General Assembly in Freiburg, Germany, on 10 September 2007, his term of office was prolonged for another year
(1 January 2008 to 31 December 2008).

Born in 1952, Michael Schuetze studied materials science at the
University of Erlangen-Nuernberg. He obtained his doctorate at RWTH
Aachen in 1983 and it was there that he qualified as a university
lecturer in 1991 and received the title of professor in 1998. In 1978
Michael Schütze commenced work as a scientist at
Karl-Winnacker-Institut of DECHEMA where he was appointed head of high
temperature materials research in 1991. In 1996 he was made a director
of the institute.
His research priorities address the areas of high temperature oxidation
and corrosion, protective layers, and intermetallic compounds. In the
year 2000 he was awarded the Rahmel-Schwenk Medal and in 2004 the Otto
von Guericke Prize of the AiF. In 1999 he organized the prestigious
Gordon
Research Conference on Corrosion in his capacity of elected
chairman. Michael Schuetze is the author of over 200 scientific
publications, the author/editor of 8 books and holds 19 patents.

At the same time Professor Philippe Marcus, Paris, France, was elected Vice-President of the Federation.
